Weather was descent today. At least it wasn't raining and the roads were dry. Went back under it and put a little more clearance in the cross member for the encoder motor and took it for a long drive. Put about 150 miles on it today.

Needs some tuning. Particularly the TCC locks. It's got stock 2500 series tables in it and the TCC locks way to soon for my liking.

The shifts are about right for an old man. Good and firm but not neck snapping. Might need just a little more 2-3 and 3-4. Hard to tell... part throttles soon as it shifts it locks the TCC.

All in all I am completely happy with it. The closer ration 1-2 shift is just amazing. I know it picked up time there. Mid range pull is stellar. I'm sure it lost a little bottom end (60') but dang if I could feel it. The taller first may have even helped. It doesn't break traction like it would with the 60E in a hard 4wd launch but haven't thrown nitrous at it yet.

Provided it doesn't break anytime soon I'm going to say anybody making any power should forget the 60E.

After following this thread....I decided to take some of my own advice and looked into re-installing the trany cooler hard lines and using compression fittings.
Well....looked at my current setup and found this:

So today I'll be using these:

And doing exactly that.

For anyone else wanting to use the 'pushlok' type fittings...the compression fitting really needs to have a 30o seat/chamfer machined into it like the one in the pic below (had them done at work).

got mine going last night done put 200 miles on it and it will get sideways at 45 + mph but i got to get used to the way it feels alot different than the 4l60e i keep thinking somethings wrong when it changes gears it doesnt lose momentum and the p.i 3600 makes it not even feel like it changes but i have to get on up to about 3000 rpm or so to get it going past 35.

The shifts just FEEL different with the 80E. Quicker and smoother it seems. The closer ratio 1-2 shift makes me smile every time I hit it hard. If I lost any bottom end time I can't feel it. The extra 1-200 rpm at OD cruise is noticeable.

Yeah....I like the way the 80E shifts.
When I tramp it....the back wheels will break loose as it shifts into second.
As for the Aeroquip hoses....

Also made a new stainless heatshield, extended to cover the hose and fittings.

Don't you need hose clamps on those fittings?

Push lock fittings are rated to 250psi most of the time with out clamps. They have large, fairly sharp barbs on them

Yeah....the pushlok fittings are fine. No need for clamps. Infact...it's recommended clamps NOT be used when using 'Pushlok' fittings.
I've actually been using the Aeroquip hose and 'Pushlok' fittings for quite a while now with no ill effects (it was originally recommended to me by a hose manufacturer/supplier we use at work).
