D-Shaft/Diff Binding? Advice...
#1
So...I noticed late last year a slight whine in the rear when gliding to a stop and this began after I'd put the 2" shorter DJM springs on it. Now since I changed the the trailing arms (Edelbrock 5260), and did the DJM hardware kit (RK2000) its way worse. Openned the pumpkin up and wear pattern is fine altho its tight and a bearing looks bad. Real issue is that the D-Shaft is REALLY tight even with suspension fully extended - actually had to pry the shaft off, so NO play in the yokes. WTF? Is this from the lower springs or the 4L80 conversion...or what???:nunchuk1:

I used the stock shaft and a yoke for me 4l80e but being 4wd i think you do need a shorter shaft. Also being that the problem started when you lowered it that seems like the most logical. You could at least measure at full droop and full stuff and see it is the problem. I don't see how lowering would cause problems in the diff.

I think the 4L80 conversion takes away a good bit of the slack, and then the drop changes the pinion angle slightly. I'll check a few more things, see if anyone else chimes in who's done any lowering with 4L80 and can confirm the shortening idea...

Dropping the rear end will shorten the distance from the rear to the transmission. If there isn't any clearance in the transmission yoke, about and inch, when the truck is sitting static, the DS is too long.
