I just bought the 05 Tahoe ones for the rear on my 99. Big difference in everything haven't tested it yet. Cost 243.xx with core exchange for the rears.

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I love all the Intel I get off this site. So many smart truck guy on here. That being said, I went to the salvage yard today and they said there are two different types of '05 front calipers. The jh6 or the jh1. The JH6 is for the 9900 lb. and the JH1 is for the 6400 lb. I don't have a clue which to get.
I have a 2000 ext cab 3 door with the 5.3L LM7, I'm running 275/60 R20 which works out to a 33" tire on 20" rims. I just want a truck that stops well and is a noticeable difference from the stock brakes. I'm not racing, this is just my hunting and fishing rig.
I read what you guys wrote on the hydroboost and I'm currently gathering intel. Looks like the salvage yard has all the parts I need for hydroboost and calipers from an 05 silverado 1500 for under 200 minus rotors and pads.
I don't get the whole Tahoe thing on the rear disks? Aren't the rear 05 calipers on a silverado 1500 the same as the Tahoe?? Just trying to see what I should be asking for from the salvage guy and why? I'm still in the middle of a learning curve here trying to get the right stuff. I'm doing the hydroboost, not question about that.

The brakes of the 05 came in two flavors; one has rear drums and one has rear discs. You want the front calipers and brackets of the truck that has the rear drums, they use a 13" rotor vs the normal 12" rotor.

The trucks only have a single piston rear caliper whereas the Tahoe's have a dual piston rear caliper.

 

Thanks now time to pony up for some parts.

 

I've been looking at doing this upgrade because I just put new rear ebrake shoes and brake pads on the rear of my truck on Saturday and the calipers seemed a little tight, but I reinstalled them because I ran out of time. They both ended up being siezed up and ruined my new pads. Anyway the truck isn't my DD so I don't need to drive it so I've been researching this upgrade and getting the parts from advance auto. I threw together a parts list if anyone is interested.

Did you have to pay a core charge on the calipers? Or did you turn your stock one in as a core?

 

Yeah I forgot to mention the core charge, but my local store doesn't seem to mind if the original isn't the same as the replacement. I'm not even sure they can really verify that anyway since the box only shows a part number.

 

Got this upgrade finished monday night and wow what a difference! Even with partially blocked rear brake lines the stopping power is sooo much better. Once it warms up i can hopefully get my stainless lines in and new caliper hoses and hopefully I will see even more of an improvement.
