Boosted / AUTO 4x4 ?s

in auto 4 I see something getting blown to pieces.. I may be wrong but in auto 4 does it not sense slip of the rear tires then engage the front? If so that would be kinda like locking it in 4hi while doin a burnout and that can't be good for business. Only times I've launched in 4wd I just do 4hi it seems a lot safer and alittle easier on things..

I use 4 auto at the track and on the street all the time.In auto it applies the front diff. coupler at all times and applies clutch pressure as needed in the tc.It also releases the clutch when rear traction is restored.I like the fact it applies as much power to rear as it can.
In 4hi it locks the coupler and the tc clutch at all times. This is best when offroad or in snow. With the clutch fully applied it is a 50-50 power delivery [front and rear].
I believe my truck 60' better in auto.

Good read...
I've got some issues with my auto 4 though... after a bit of driving casually with it on, it will trigger the “service 4wd“ light and will quit engaging the front at that point, no matter if the rear is slipping or not...?
Anyone have any ideas? I'd really like to be able to use it more often.

I wont do it, I did it once with my 418 and bounced and chirped and was just plain violent. The same launch in 4hi just result in a 4wd drift through the intersection. If you other guys have been doing good congrats, but I dont feel like replacing a front diff or tcase.

The only time I tried a launch in auto 4 it barked the hell out of the back tires then the front caught and it went but it didn't sound good at all and really felt like something was gunna break or broke lol.. seems like some of the trucks work differently then others as far as the 4wd goes

i have burned the clutches out and haven't used 4auto since. It was definitely fun while it lasted. As long as I wasn't launching with the full a 75shot as well, it was pretty fun. Maybe as the one member said above, changing the fluid and such may help though.
When I did use it with all my power, I agree with cody, it was violent. Change to 4hi and it would basically drift and do fine because the power was equal. I am assuming this is probably an issue of timing between wheel speed sensors and applying clutch speeds.
BUT, I have stood 15' from sharpshooter when he launches and it does launch nicely. Guess you need to step up to 700HP russ so you can't use the 4auto anymore. It'll be too violent.
