I have 4.10 and am really thinking of stepping up to a 4.56 to offset the long 1st gear ratio in the 80E vs the 60E. Just planting that bug since you will have it all apart anyway.
The tall 1st gear and weight are the only reasons I haven't done the 80e swap. I am confident it will slow me down where I play, speed wise, the most. I have 4.10's. Wish I had done 4.56 when I swapped. I won't do it again unless something breaks. I'd like to go the 4l80E RV 1st gear thats available.

Yeah, I'd probably enjoy the 4.56's more. I was just so scared of killing highway use on them. I'd like the 1st gear mod too. DO IT!

I read up on the 1st gear swap when I did it(went to the 80E). I think Vince@ FLT said he was afraid the different gear set would become the weak link in the 80E. I'm not sure if he has chaned his stand. Has it been done a few times yet? Does FLT offer this gear? Since I'm 2WD it might be easier and cheaper just to swap to 4.56
I bought the GTO for a DD and I wasnt going to mod it....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The tall 1st gear isn't bad at all... and I have 3.73's All depends on how you stall it along with matching how YOU want your forced induction to hit. I am VERY happy with my 4L80E.

x2...I'm very happy with mine as well. I have 3.73's with 33" diameter tires and a stock replacement converter that has excellent street manners but will brake stall to 3200 when I want it to

I was considering doing the 1-2 gear swap for awhile, but I'm glad I didn't, although I think the stock 1-2 80E gears work better with turbo trucks than with s/c trucks.
