Default 4l80e for sled pulling truck

I'm looking to swap a 4L80e into my truck i use for sled pulling and was trying to decided how much it needs beefed up. currently I have a mild 5.3 in it maybe making 350-375 flywheel hp. So I figured shift kit, bw clutches, 34 element sprag, and maybe a billet input not sure if I need that or not. truck weighs 6500 lbs. also may try to pick up another 50hp over the winter.

I can't see you needing a billet input shaft at that power level. If you are gonna have it apart then do the dual feed mod, get a good heavy duty cooler to keep temps in check. The other mods you listed sound good. I am sure some of the experts will chime in. I am happy with my BW clutches in mine.

You sled pull with a 1500 5.3? Wild. Have any pics of the truck?

I'm making 700+ to the tire on a bone stock 4l80e.. Just now put a shift kit in it.. I'd say you'd be fine with just a shift kit.

X2? Is it built for a specific class or something because I thought sled pulling trucks pull some crazy weight and made more power the 375?

Ahh ok I know nothing about that sport is why I asked. All I have ever seen is diesels with huge amounts of torque and heavy sleds on TV so when you said 375hp and a 1500 truck it threw me off.

Sled pulling is overrated.... Especially in NW Ohio everybody and there brother does it.. u should build a racetruck with what you have not a pulling truck. If you want a pulling truck buy a duramax like everybody else imo. A stock 80e should be suffice, but i would run the 60e till she blows you will break other parts before the trans though. worry about other modifications first before a transmission.

Wow what a pile of useless info. I'm sure if he was into race trucks he wouldn't be pulling a sled. I'm also confident that he is pulling in the stock GAS class so a d-max wouldn't be allowed.
Anyway OP, a healthy 80e bone stock will be fine for what your doing. I see a lot of guys manually locking the converter once they get the sled moving and swear it helps.
