4l80e - Rebuild - Replace this?

Default 4l80e - Rebuild - Replace this?

Tearing into my hurt 80E. Putting together a parts list for the rebuild. A low mile transmission. A thrust bearing in the overdrive planet let go and put a lot of crud into the transmission.

Anywho... would you replace this drum. Scratches aren't to deep. I think its called the reaction carrier. The Low/Reverse band applies on it.

maybe throw it on a lathe and hit with with some emry paper? or a brillow pad....

I'm not sure what the "professionals" will say but I would replace it. We ran into the same thing on my friends 35th SS LE Camaro when we swapped in his 80E. Had it cleaned up by a machine shop and it caused more problems. After we replaced it we had no more probs. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope you get it back together soon man. It's a beautiful truck.

I wouldnt be afraid to slap 'er back in just as is.... maybe scuff it with a scotch-brite or something... I dont think it needs replacing IMO...

Thanks for the input guys. I'm looking for a replacement. Haven't found one aside from in the complete assembly and pricey.

Hahaha, you have me pegged. Unfortunately the truck budget is shot to hell after the divorce. Two paths with this transmission now. Built to the hilt for the future powerplant I'd like to have or solid rebuild and sold.

Pulled it apart to look at it closer. The more I look at it the more I think it was made rough like it is. The band itself shows nothing itself to indicate that grit got in it and grooved it. The deeper groove I know was machined in. It's not in line of rotation, a spiral that starts at one side and ends on the other. The finer marks also look like they were machined in.

Where is Vince when you need him?

Most of the ones I pull out look just like that. I've reused plenty.
