4l80E No Reverse, help!
I recently got my truck back together after pulling the engine/trans out for upgrades. The truck is a 2005 2500HD. I swapped the new 2005 80e out for a 2002 80e that I put a shift kit in. The truck runs and has forward gears but will not engage reverse. It free revs with the selector is in reverse. It is full of fluid and all connectors/linkage seem to be hooked up correctly. The tranny was supposed to be in complete running condition after being removed from a rollover truck.
Does it sound like I made a mistake somewhere putting in the shift kit? Any other input or things to check would help out a ton!
Thanks,
Henry

I pulled the accumulator and didn't see any obvious problems. I read about a pin that can crack, does anyone have a picture or can describe where it is? I want to check whatever I can before I pull the trans back out of the truck. I have a feeling that the 4th/rev band is broken.

Check out the stickys on this page, some great info on the 60's and 80's and how they work.

Thanks a lot guys! I *think* I got everything correct on the shift kit, but I will double check my work now that the tranny is out. Those stickys are awesome, Thanks KB.

This happened to me when I got my shift kit put in. The trans shop forgot to put in a small spacer plate underneth the valve body. All the gears shifted great except reverse. It would only move very slowly at very low RPM's (under 1300 rpm)and thin just slip. I took it back and they put the plate back in and replaced the valve body gasket. After that everything worked correctly.
