Default 4l60e vs. 4l80e need some help before mine takes a dive

ok fellas, i have an 07 cc classic im about to install a 210/218 .551.551. 122 in a few weeks. and the only other mods to my engine will be lts, tune, 3200 and true-trac. for now. I may eventually go 6.0 but until then im not sure what kind of power i will be making with the 5.3 I have been reading about the 60e going out quick once engine modding starts. well before that happen what companies should i look into as far as getting a built trans and should i go with a built 60e or 80e also my current 60e has 77k on it. thanks.

no boost a well built 60e should be fine. For boosted engines a 80e would be a better choice. Both FLT and Performabuilt make very well built transmissions. Both are sponsors here.

If I were in your position, I would at least price out all the parts for an 80E swap. Search Craigslist and the web/forums for a low mileage 80E, then look into converters, shift kit, etc...

Compare the price you come up with for the 80E swap with the price of a built 60E and go from there.

my 60e is holding 475rwhp good.it has 128k on it with transgo hd2 shift and servos and 40k trans cooler.imo if your making under 500rwhp the 60e will be fine with a shiftkit and a good cooler.anything over that i would go to a 80e.

I would'nt say hard, I did alot of driving at the time and pulled trailers about twice a week..Every few months I would have to pull a tractor a few miles down the road.. I guess tranny is different, I was down at a shop a few months back and they had an 08 come in with around 70k miles and the tranny blew up..They started taking it apart and the owner called back and told them to put it back together because the dealer said it was still under warranty..
