Default 4L60E= Dead again! 2 days old

Well I just got the truck back Friday night and I worked all weekend and maybe only had 50 miles on it. Lost all foward gears and still have reverse. The trans shop guy came to where I broke down at and he had it towed. Going to number 6!

I think I have the shortest lived 60E trans??

Probably reusing parts that should be replaced or the case itself is out of spec.

I agree, but he needs to just go 80e with his weight factor, and be done with it.

I wouldn't waste my time with another one from that shop after this time, that is just me. Go 80e so you no longer have to worry about it..

Yeah it just Banged into 2 gear well into nothing and lost all. He replaced many parts from the trans last week. Trust me I'm getting all that's needed to do the 80E. He should be covering the cost. I will be doing the swap this fall.

Are you going to try and get some of your money back and sell the 4l60e on craigslist after you get the 80E in? Nothing wrong in trying to do that, just tell the person interested in the 60e that you had it rebuilt a few times and are switching to 80e because of your power. Who knows the next person might have better luck than you did if they have a lighter vehicle.

If you would have went with FLT or performabuilt on the 60e I think you would of had a better tranny, but it is hard to say nowadays because only a handfull of shops know how to build a 4l60e last behind some power. It is a hit or miss.

Last year I built my unit with the following:

Corvette intermediate servo
Sonnax billet overdrive servo
Double cage 29 element forward sprag
Low/Reverse spring roller
Alto red low/reverse clutches and Koleen steels
Alto carbon oversized 2/4 power band w/ reinforced anchor
New input drum/housing
Rebestos blue 3/4 clutches and Koleen steels
Rebestos blue overrun clutches and Koleen steels
Beast reaction shell
New reaction sun gear
GM rear 5 planetary gear set
Rear carrier ring gear
Thrust bearing kit
New upgraded babbot pump bushing
New case bushing
New extra wide sun gear bushing
Sonnax boost valve
Billet forward accumulator
Billet 1-2 accumulator
EPC Solenoid
Superier valve body shift correction kit
4L65-E overhaul kit(gaskets,seals, ect)
Updated valve body seperator plate
Billet 300m output shaft
Billet 300m input shaft
Billet input drum sleeve & piston
RPM high-rev spring kit
Modified case

SSS, 13lbs of boost, 50 shot nitrous, approx 5700lbs. Trans didnt engage 2nd gear, reved to 7200. Upon engine brake sheared the forward sprag. Never know when something is gonna go, specially when your heavy + power. Chances are greatly reduced when upgrading to an 80E but even at that anything can go. Its part of hot rodding fellas
