Shame on GM but it is what it is. The builder makes a difference as far as end play in the shafts, clearence in the clutches, ect. The 1st thing to remember to whoever builds it, you dont need rock crushing shifts. You want crisp firm shifts and thats it. The less the parts take the "shock" and movement the longer it will last. Also driving habits, constant WOT into 3rd and 4th, 4th to 2nd downshifts, ect will fail a unit in a minute.

i have a performabuilt lvl 2, and i would say the 1-2 shift is "rock-crushing". IF it doesn't chirp on the 1-2 shift, it does make the truck leap forward a bit. the 2-3 is quite nice, just a quick, firm, bump.

when i first drove the truck after the break-in period on the trans, the 1-2 shift felt like getting kicked in the behind by a mma fighter. it has now calmed down a bit.

I just dont see the point in this. Why abuse an already poorly designed 60E any more than it already is when its not necessary??

well, i wasn't seeking that harsh of a shift, just increased power handling. performabuilt claims the lvl 2 can handle 700hp. once i put my turbo on, i plan to run it at 550hp at the wheels. when (not if) the trans breaks, if it's still in warranty i will have them rebuild it, then sell it. then i'll put in a 4l80e.

Much agreed. Every builder has there preference.. I agree with what 2BFAST said early... While I could get more performance out of my dd I would rather leave the Tq management in as to keep the 60e together... I'm sure the factory 10 bolt will thank me until I replace it with a 14bolt.
The 60e was just not designed for the added weight and performance

When taking torqe managment out of the equation, guys wonder why their 3/4's fail so fast. Having that slight cushin going from 2-3 makes a difference in my opinion.
