So I picked up a 4l60 for a c10 build I'm doing. Pulled the 4l60 apart and it had 4 pinion planets in the forward location and a 5 pinion in the rear. Don't the planets have to be matching in the forward and aft locations or does it really matter? I can tell it's been into once atleast having a beast sunshell and the alto clutches.

 

Doesn't matter if it has 4 or 5 pinion planets in it. The 4l65 had 5 pinion, there is an after market 5 pinion that is weaker than the factory 4 pinion planet. I would be leery on it having the cheap 5 pinion planet.

 

If there is a number stamped on the rear planetary that starts with i want to say ms.... Throw it away and get a new rear planetary....










Those are the cheap chinese 5 pinions.... These are the good ones....


And of course i cant find the pics i have of the part number stanped on the housing....

Sorry for such a late reply. The trans is sitting in my garage back together other than valve body. I did verify they were gm planets instead of the Chinese knock offs. I figured I'd give it a try seeing it's been together running as is with the 5 pinion rear and a 4 pinion forward.

 

Just make sure they are GM planets. The knock offs are junk.
