Default 4L60 is about to bite the dust...suggestions on whats next?

Alright guys I have a '99 2 door Tahoe that I just put a LQ4 (mods in sig) in this summer and my 4l60e has been slipping the past couple days pretty badly. So I have a few questions on what y'all think I should do next.

Keep in mind, I am a college student and I don't have much money. I have been thinking about my options and either I'm gonna get my current one rebuilt, buy a used junkyard or find one on craigslist 4L60, or find a used or junkyard 4L80.

Now my question is, will a 4L60 or 4L80 fit from a NBS truck into my OBS truck without modification? Or do I just need to search for trans out of my year truck?

All suggestions are welcome!

the trans will fit just fine as long as it is an ls1 style 4l60e.

if you are wanting to save money dont build a high performance vehicle then go buy a transmission out of a junk yard. you will just keep on paying to replace junk transmissions. just save up the money and get yours rebuilt.

are you in alabama by chance??

the 4l80 will take some work, especially since you are 4wd..

i got my 4l60 built into a 4l65 and its holding up great behind my 6.0...i would say find a junkyard trans to get you by until you can throw some money into a decent built trans

How much was it to get yours built to a 65 and who built yours? Do you know what all goes into the 80 swap?

an 80 swap with 4wd will require more than you will want to spend for sure. people have ran mildly built 60s to over 600hp in 4wd trucks.

building your 60E to a 65E is a few small changes other than just changing the planetaries. there are several other things that can make a stronger transmission for less money.

Well it sounds like an 80e swap is out of the question. I really would like to put in a new stall while it's out too. I was thinking a Circle D 278mm around the 26-2800 range. Thoughts?

Would it be worth it to get it built to a 65e? I really don't know much about trans so if y'all could help me out some I would really appreciate it!

I paid about 2300, but that included the trans build, rear u joint, rear main seal, plus pulling and installing the trans...

if you wanna do it yourself, look into a flt trans or a performa built level 2
