Exclamation 2006 Sierra CC Brakes - Help!

Ok so my brakes have been really bad lately feels like I have a warped rotor. I took the vehicle into the dealer and they called me and said that I need to have them turned and it costs $360. The truck has 16k miles on it or so. That seems a little bit ridiculous to me. I think I will just leave them as is for now and upgrade them to some aftermarket disc on the front. Has anyone else had this issue yet? I have no idea why they would have worn out so quick. If you have suggestions on a good aftermarket disc please feel free to post.

Thanks

What size are your wheels/tires? I got 20's... and my front rotors already squeel and are warped... and I have under 10k miles on my 06 RCSB. I'll be buying a sprare set of rotors and putting them on myself soon. And the rotors I take off I'll have them checked and turned... at a local brake shop. Then I will have a spare set on hand when I know the problem will eventually return. Until I can afford to upgrade to a rotor/caliper package from Baer... I will consider this maintenance... FWIW...

BTW... my brother lives in Yelm ... absolutely beautiful country up there. Was there a few weeks ago during the snow storm and nasty black ice at night

Bill,

My Wheel/Tire combo is 17" guess its not the larger rims doing it to yours then. The dealership told me it was from heating the brakes up too much. I guess the supposed new system they went to in 05 which was s upposed to be a big improvement from the 04 was not that great.
Sadly I moved out of Yelm. I miss it, you are right it is pretty nice there. I moved back to Alaska back in August to take a new job.

I had a similar issue when I put on the lift and started running the heavier wheel/tire combination. They will start out ok first thing, but once you get some heat into the rotors they start thumping very noticeably.

When I get some time, I plan to get some Wagner or Bendix rotors with some good aftermarket pads and see if that helps.

GM dropped the ball big with the 05-06 truck brakes. Besides the fronts not holding up , the rear drums are notorious for getting out of round. Some folks have even had problems from the get go that the dealers are unable to fix, something about the way the drum setup was designed.

Definitely a big dissapointment, I probably would not have purchased a GM if I knew it was going to do this, but it is by no means an insurmountable problem, just a big annoyance for a new truck that was the result of GM being cheap.

I am leaning towards the Powerslots with Hawk Pads for the fronts within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully those last a little bit longer than the stock ones. I wonder if it is possible to retrofit the rears back to a disc setup. Drums are super lame

I've considered it, but you would probably need a different proportioning valve, e-brake setup and other miscellaneous stuff that I'm forgetting.

Noe if you could find one out of an SSS, that might be worth all of the trouble.
