Hey guys, new to the forum, but for start out, this is what I got

2004 Chevy Silverado Z71 4x4
5.3L (LM7)
Straight pipe exhaust
aFe closed box dry filter CAI
RC 2.5" lift/level kit
All-on headlight mod

But anyways, my issue right now is, I burnt up my 3-4 clutch pack a couple weeks ago, right after I replaced my transfer case adaptor plate (broke into pieces after my u-joints failed at 85mph)
Now I picked up a 4L60E out of a 98 silverado 4x4 that was bolted to a 400 SBC, which the trans only had 15k miles on it after a rebuild and has the beast sun shell.

When I picked it up I didn't even think of to put shaft lengths or any of that, I just heard that a 4l60e that comes out of a Chevy v8 should work with any other 5.3l. I was wondering if any of you guys know if it would bolt straight up with out any modifications or replacement of the flex plate and torque converter, or if I can just use the current torque converter (replaced 20k miles ago) on this rebuilt 4l60e that's getting ready to be bolted up.

That input shaft is not the correct one for a LS platform, to the best of my knowledge. I am not a expert but if my memory serves me correct the LS does not use the Pilot on the end. I also believe the one pictured is a 298mm and the LS is a 300mm, if any of this is incorrect then someone please correct me.

 

alright, so to get the input shaft switched over from the old trans to the new one, I'd have to dismantle the pump right? Or can i just switch the whole pump and shaft as one assembly over to the rebuilt one? Because i know the pump in the old trans is still good.

 

As mentioned the input shafts are both different. The front shaft is pressed into the direct drum so it's not just as simple as un-bolt and re-bolt back together. You would actually need to press the shaft out to swap them. If your original trans had a failure I would not recommend reusing the front drum from the failed unit with out going through it and checking your clutch packs. I would also recommend cleaning out the Lube passages in the shaft as there may be debris in there. The torque converter can also be contaminated so it would not hurt to replace it or to have it cut and cleaned so the newer trans does not fail.

 

Yeah, I might as well just resell the transmission since I bought it for a real good price anyways. I found a trans out of an 03 that'll have everything I need, and hold me over until I can get my current trans rebuilt to handle torque better

 

i know its been a while, but i have another question about the same transmission. From what i read, they have flexplate adapters that are used to bolt different transmissions into these trucks. Now would i be able to just use an adapter of some sort to get this transmission to bolt up to my 5.3L?
