Default Want some opinions on switching to turbo!

Been thinking about this for a while, making a switch from maggie to turbo. I really like the 112 because of the instant torque and boost. I know I have'nt maxed out my setup yet. I was planning on going cam, longtubes, pulley, etc.etc.etc..

I was just thinking before I go spend all the money on this setup would I be better off just upgrading to a turbo? Any suggestons is much appreciated.

I like all the lowend power from the maggie but I want more topend power. Seems that all the really fast trucks run turbo's. All you guy's have more experience about this so that is why I'm asking.

I guess the main thing I want to know is which way would be money best spent as I don't want to dump alot money into my 112 setup and still want more. I want the most power out of my 5.3. as of now and if I go bigger cubes later I want to have something to support that as well. I hope all that seems clear.

Thanks in advance!

How fast do you want to go?
I would like to be in the 10-11 sec range in 1/4. I know I will probably need to build a motor for this.

I want my truck to pull alot harder at highway speeds. It just seems that turbo's walk on most S/C's and I know it has alot to do with setup. I want to put cars to shame as most people around here like to race at 50-60 rolls and up.

I don't think you'll get there with your 5.3/MP112 combo. High-mid 11's would be possible though, with the right setup.

I know maggies r plenty reliable for DD. What about turbo's for DD?

What can I do to make my maggie pull alot harder up top. Would LT headers, cam, and pulley do it. Or would a turbo still walk on it? Also I don't tow with my truck it's mainly for play and race.

A cam and headers will definately help the pull up top, especially the cam. For all of the expensive and effort of switching setups I recommend trying a good blower cam first since it is a pretty easy install. If you still arent satisfied you can go from there.

Dont race people from a 50 roll, take it down to a 20 roll and see how you do.

10s with a 5.3 is going to be tough...

Your gonna needs some serious boost if your wanting to get those kind of numbers out of a 5.3. Head studs and a MP T76 turbo at about 15psi should get you in the ball park and still be pretty fun on the street. Turbo make great DD's Like anything, powers only there when you put you foot down.

20 roll means tire smoke unless I feather it. That's what I thought about a good cam and headers just was'nt for sure. I'm just thinking if I'm not happy with I'll have added expense of the cam and headers vs. just doing a turbo know. Although I'm going to do a cam anyway so I may just do that and see. I'm sure I could run the same cam later if I do change later.

I know what u mean about not racing from a 50 roll but if someone pulls up beside you on the highway doing 50-65 it gets kinda hard to resist sometimes.

I agree with Atomic, throw a blower cam in there along with some headers and maybe a smaller pulley to make up the boost and see how you like that.

Worst case you can sell the cam and headers if you end up going turbo. Then at least you tried and arent left wondering if the cam and headers would get you to where you want to be.
