Default underhood temps.

I've been in talks with Kyle at KB Racing about finally throwing some boost at my tahoe. I know that going with a front mount that underhood temps. are going to increase, wondering what you guys are experiencing and if you have done anything to keep the temps. down. Thanks...I'm really getting psyched to boosting my tahoe.

They are definitely higher if you don't wrap your hot pipes. I had mine unwrapped with my 5.3, when I put my new engine in, I wrapped all the hot pipes (manifold, crossover and downpipe) with 2 layers of header wrap and it made a huge difference. You could use a turbo blanket if you wanted it even cooler, but I like to look at my turbo naked, lol. Wrap your parts and get an elbow to move your air filter towards the corner of your fender and it is just fine.

I've been thinking about wrapping the hot pipes, but am concerned that they will hold moisture plus they use liquid sodium sulfate in the winters around here and I think they would rot thru in no time. A turbo blanket is a good idea. I have also been looking at these heat vents, RunCool Real Heat-Escape Hood and Side Louversbut not so sure I want to be cutting up my hood.

Just wrapping the under hood pipes and a turbo blanket helps a ton and they don't really ever see any moister, even in bad weather unless your submarine'ing!

Just buy stainless steel hot pipes and wrap everything up real good and tight. I would buy a set of 4 sleeves for you plug wires on the log side. Also, you can add a turbo blanket like mentioned before. If you wrap everything up it really won't be an issue. Absolutely no need for additional vents lol

This is good info. at least to me. I may look into having Kyle do SS hot pipes, not sure seems that if I wrap them up good I won't have any issues. Did you guys just do the underhood pipes or the crossover too? As of right now I am doing a non-IC kit, to be honest it is mainly to keep the initial cost down and to get the kit in and running, I do plan on adding one at some point, honestly it was an easier sell to the wife as far as initial cost goes(there I said it..LoL!)

I had kyle wrap my hot pipes (x-over, log, and DP) for this same reason. He also painted them black but not sure with what to be honest lol. This is with the aluminized pipes, im too poor for SS lol.
