Yes s300 with a 71 compressor wheel.
S400 t4 with small wheels is fine.
Starting with s400t4 small wheels, if later in life plans are to go big.
Allow you swap turbos with out swapping anything else.

So when spec'ing a turbo kit. All aspects need to be considered.
Present, and future plans plus budget.

There are several turbos that fit your power levels. Easy to get lost on choosing a turbo.
S300 will work,

You'll learn 75% of what you're confused about by just bolting the kit on... Every other guy on this forum has a kit from either KB or Trick, and for good reason. Summer is upon us, better to spend your time boosting around town vs reinventing the wheel (turbine and compressor in this case).

Makes sense and I appreciate your thoughts. Wasn't really trying to reinvent anything though just a better understanding. Good points though and I'll look more into the kits.. I've got the funds to begin

FYI - my 70mm magnum turbo from Tricks older stage II spools perfectly on my stock truck and makes 500 wheel at 12 psi.

a little "better" and larger turbo would make more power with less load. Esp with a cam and supporting mods. Keep an eye on my build thread, ill be doing an apple to apple test with the 70mm and then if need be upgrading the turbo to reach 600 wheel.

A S475 is a 800+hp capable turbo and as such, won't spool as fast on a 5.3. It really all depends on what you want out of the truck.

If I was specing you a turbo kit, I'd build a BW S369, JGS 40mm wg and a 50mm bov. Would be a really fun street truck!

You pretty much have your answer. Other than that learn how to interpret boost curves
