Default Need to pin one more crank

5.3 is coming out and 6.0 going in under my radix. Need to pin the crank. I still have the kit, just need a couple of dowell pins. I hate to have to buy a complete kit just to get the pins. Anyone sell just the pins? Is there anything special about the pin material? Thanks..

You can use an old drill bit the correct size to make the pins out of.

Exaclty how do you pin the crank and how do you know if you need this done? I have never had any problems but then again I don't want any either.

I thought about cutting the shank off of an old bit but was concerned that the bit material might be too hard/brittle.

You need to do it. I didn't and ended up buying another crank pulley. Buy a kit and it's pretty simple. I got mine from Magnuson. You drill two holes that go between the crank pulley and the crank snout. Insert the pins, replace the bolt and washer and you're done. They have a thick washer that serves as a guide so it's hard to mess it up. Having a rt. angle drive drill also helps.

I had to do this for my new Innovators West Crank Pulley (different size pins) as the pin kit used a 3/16" pin and I couldnt find one anywhere. It is the same hardness as the old keyways we used on the small and big blocks. I have a set of the pins here that I could send you but you wont have them very soon because of the holidays.

Does this keep the crank pulley from walking off?

if you have a PDB, use the pin kit, I wouldn't do it any other way

It keeps the Crank Pulley from spinning on the Crank Shaft.
