How many miles have you run with that small pulley on top? How much boost are you running? Mine lasted about 5Kmiles before it turned loose. I can't believe yours will last too much longer.

When you guys are pinning things are you using pull dowels like this?
http://www.dpncanada.com/index.php?o...934&Itemid=146
Or just the cheapy roll pins?
The pull dowels make for much easier disassembly if needed.
just curious.

The pins in the kit are solid steel. Pins are a semi tight fit. I had to just tap them to get them in the drilled holes. Half of the hole is in the crank...other half is in the pulley (if that makes any sense). They are held in by the washer that is secured by the bolt in the end of the crank. The pins take the place of the square key that kept the harmonic balancer from spinning on the older chevy motors. Not as secure, but way easier to do this vs broaching the pulley and machining a square slot in the crank snout.

I found a set of pins once upon a time on the net along with bit and reamer necessary to pin it. Just didn't have the jig to drill it straight. Wound up buying the kit from Magna but still haven't installed it. 2 engines. About 50k miles with the blower, 10 psi and I have never had an issue with spinning the balancer.

Guess I'm just not lucky. Only 9psi and I don't hammer it too often. It's easy to do and will save having to buy a new crank pulley. The pulley/balancer must be softer metal to not ruin the crank when it spins.

Maybe I'm just lucky I do plan on doing it soon cause once it spins its to late. Cheap insurance. When I've had the pulley off for cam swaps and such I've always followed the torque specs to the letter and new bolts.

I still have the pins laying around somewhere. Lots of them. They were to long best I remember but could be cut down. Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll drop couple in the mail to ya.

Old Motorhead...
Can you post any pics of your pinning your crank? Never worked on S/C but like following along. My buddy had his crank pinned and knew what was done to it but never seen it done.
Thanks

I'm a pretty low tech redneck. If I can get one of my kids to post the pics, I'll sure try to get them up. I can take pictures with a digital camera, but don't have a clue how to get them into this computer and on to this site. It won't get done 'till sometime next week.

Okay.
Well if you get around to it, it'd be cool but I understand.
