I would say that the closer the IAT is to the throttle body or intake manifold the better since it will more accurately reflect the temp of the air going into the motor. So at least after the intercooler if possible. You could cut the wires going into the MAF or you could just get a couple of PCM pins, pull out the pins for the stock IAT in the MAF and run the wires to whereever you decide to put the sensor. The pigtail is available from alot of differnt sources, as well as the IAT sensor but you definitely want the open ended sensor. A kit like this would work pretty well, http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/o...tail-p-62.html
they also have bungs to weld into your intake tubing also. Sorry for the rambling, been studying all f-in day and i'm burnt.

Yeah, I was a little curious of how to go about this as well. Only thing is I have a whipple (w/out intercooler.)

Cool

There are a few threads around about this mod. Here is one I found that may help you out with some information. Relocate IAT Sensor

This is a good mod if your have an IC or are running meth injection to move the IAT sensor after them to read the reduced air temps that are produced and maybe get some timing back. Be sure to log for KR.

I think it's better to run the threaded sensor on a fi setup even though the gromet one probably wouldn't blow out with even 10 psi but just in case, one less thing to have to worry about. The sensors have two wires, signal to the pcm and ground. The signal can't be split, so you can't just tap the wire. If you don't care about cutting the factory harness, go for it. Me personally I'd rather not cut the factory harness if possible. If I was going to run the separate sensor, I would do like I said and get a couple of pcm pins (like you would use to add electric fans), pull the pins for the stock sensor (in the maf) and wire the new sensor and plug it in to the right position on the pcm. Do you have the pcm pinout for your year truck?

The gauge wire used is pretty small, maybe 20? It doesn't move alot of current so it can be small. The open element one can measure temp change more quickly I believe. The closed one is used for coolent and whatnot so it doesn't fluctuate as quickly and can live in a corrosive environment.

ok so , i have a few more ? one is i know i use a signal wire and a ground which is which and do i ground anywhere or does it have 2 wires going to the pcm? where can i get the pcm connector pins? and here is the schem for the pcm

http://www.yarnell.org/pcm2005/

so it should be on pcm c2 pin # 25 tan color, i dont see any other wires mentioned. so i dont know if the ground needs to go to the pcm.
