Something tells me that small 97° vs 100° painted IC difference would grow when you push 100 lbs/min through the intercooler...

Default dont shoot the messenger

I asked a engineer buddy about this .He said it works because the raw aluminum intercooler has a coating of oxidation on it and it re-acts to air which is oxygen and repels sum of the air .black paint covers the oxidation up. he said that why you cant weld aluminum unless its clean. the oxidation aluminum has a higher melting point .which mean it absorbs heat some what.he said if you try to weld aluminum with out cleaning it .it will melt the inside before the outside is hot enough to weld . I AM PAINTING MINE BLACK.

Ok I guess I use my truck differently. My intercooler doesn't serve as a black body radiation device to cool the intake charge lol.

so seems it doesnt matter about what color of paint you put on it, my guess is a light coating of clear would serve the same purpose

RIGHT he said it doesn't matter what color .the auto manufactures probably use black use black because cheaper and would look better than a yellow or red A/C CONDENSER.
