Default Heat stress cracks anyone?

Pulled my manifold off tonight to check for what I thought was an exhaust leak. Turns out I was right. These cracks go clean through.

Damn man, That sucks!

Do you have the ability to fix it yourself?

I have a buddy in town that I'm gonna have weld it up for me temporarily. I'm just gonna get kbracing96 to build a new one for me eventually.

IMO you need to expand the crack with a grinder or cut off wheel inorder to get decent pentration... But then again, what do I know...

I believe if the cracks are drilled at the ends and opened up some with a Dremel tool you can save yourself a couple hundred bucks. The welder just needs to make sure his weld penetrates.

Simply take an abrasive pad on a side grinder to smooth out the surface welds if looks would be a concern!

another piece of advice, before you take it to be welded, make sure that it is absolutley clean around the welds... Scrub it down with acetone, since it will have carbon build up and you mentioned in other threads about an oil burning problem...

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll talk to him about it to make sure he's gonna do a good job. I'm not concerned with how it's going to look. I could really care less, as long as the cracks are gone.
