Foose's 4.8L goes out fighting....will be missed
Well guys, been a tough day on me and even tougher on red. Good news is i'm ok and the trucks ok and will some day fight again. Very blessed for those two things alone and thankful to god up there.
After my big dyno day yesterday, I was ready to see if she could work just a little longer and pull that 9 second slip off today. After loading up, I decided to do a couple last pulls to make sure it was still right for the street, not just dyno tune. After 2 pulls with the boost lower, I was adding fuel and made one final pull at 22psi. It went lean early then was find going to low 11's at 6.5 but she had enough and number #5 rod exited the block. At first I thought it was the rear as some how it still was running then I heard the noise and had smoke from the motor so I shut it off. This locked the steering wheel and next thing I know I got no power brakes and no steering. I ended slowly entering the ditch safely both feet on the brakes. It didn't do no damage but sunk into the mud and pushed the plasic bumper in that needed painted anyways. I was more worried I damaged the bogart then the motor lol.
Overall, I accepted this day a long time ago. Big picture, i'm glad I wasn't at 140MPH when it happen, 9 second pass or not. Red did go out fighting though, spinning 30" slicks at 90-100 MPH. That motor not only took pass after pass at the track, everyday it left the garage it got ran thru the gears. Amazing stuff.
Whats next? Don't know. Likely something that will work with my current turbo, so maybe a forged 5.3. Few idea's, I don't want the truck down for over a month, I need it for boating!
Her final video, take care guys and i'll keep you posted on tear down pictures.
