Default Expanding, got some ? Gonna be a long one. :)

Looking at putting a turbo on our 03 test truck.
Gonna start small and work our way up.
There's gonna be lots of pictures, ill have lots of questions for areas I don't deal with regularly, like tuning or engine mechincal.
We are expanding and its time for me to learn more. So I can make the kits better even more complete. And help me; help my customer even more then we currently do.

The set up will start off stock (bone stock 4.8L) just a turbo, injectors.
Gonna be a new entry level kit.

First question.
Anyone ever install better springs on the old cam.
The engine has a good amount of miles, and I'm betting they were all hard.

Thought about throwing a set of GM zo6 springs on there.

Thoughts?

Anyone care to help with tuning please pm me.

Sounds like fun.

First off, I personally believe installing springs and new valve seals would be one of the first things I would do. GM seals, and PAC or Tooley dual springs would be my only options. Trunion upgrade on the stock rockers would be as well.

Second, all things being equal, and assuming a 1 to 1 reference, what works for an engine N/A, will work fine with a turbo. Higher exhaust back pressure will change those specs, and the only way to tell is to test your own kit and create data. Starting with the stock cam would be a good refrence point for that data, so I personally would use it, and go from there.

Third, If you are looking for a well versed tuner in the Texas and surrounding area, I honestly would give Patrick Guerra a call. He has tuned for me and is one of the most methodological tuners I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. JMHO on this one.

Lastly, I'm not sure what you were asking about something being hard after so many miles, but it sounds kinky.

https://sdparts.com/details/gm-perfo...parts/12499224 these are rated at .570 max lift

the popular triple 12 isky cam is a .56x lift

i bet some people would be hesitant to run this combo with that small of a window.

I've had good luck with pac1518 springs, but I've heard great things about Brian Tooley dual springs too.

Honestly, I could give them to you, but I would call Brian for his springs, or call Ed at Flowtech Induction for some PAC's and get their input. They have a ton more experience than I do, and what I suggest may, or may not be their suggestion. Both will recommend a dual however. Either one will get you where you want to be.

Double springs are a bit overkill for a stock cam imo. I would just put the blue springs in it and go. If you are going to be upgrading to the triple 12 or something similar soon, then put good springs in there now so you don't have to do double the work. Jarrett told me to use the Isky 165A springs for my 4.8L build. He said he has been over 900 hp with those springs. Interested to see what you do with this truck!

Dual springs are for sure overkill, but they give him a safe starting point for future growth as he tests his system on their test vehicle. And I agree, I am interested in what becomes of this testing.
