Default Engine Cooling with Obstructions

Engine Cooling with Obstructions

LS swapped 2000 S10. Currently running S10 V6 radiator with dual fans. Cools and works, even in 112 degree heat. Since then, upgrades such as AC, transmission cooler, and very soon intercooler.

Have contacted Ron Davis, Be Cool and other such ‘high end’ radiator shops to see what they suggest.

The concern is, once all these obstructions get placed in front of the radiator, how to get air through them all for the radiator to cool the motor.

One idea is move the trans cooler to under the vehicle and add a fan to it.

But that is only a small portion of blockage compared to the AC condenser, and intercooler.

Any suggestions?

V-mount the intercooler

but, I have all the same obstructions+ a power steering cooler in front of the rad in my Tahoe and she doesn't get warm, even towing. I suspect you'll be fine with any aluminum rad and e fan setup you pick

I don’t have much frontal opening for incoming air as you can see in the picture. I'm thinking duct work to help force air into the intercooler and more ducting to help that air through the radiator.

Will need to figure out how to get the incoming air out of the truck without creating lift or unnecessary drag, although that isn’t much of a worry being this is a street driven vehicle.

Tahoe has probably 150% more air opening than I do, plus a radiator nearly 2 times mine, plus I haven’t seen your tahoe, but its probably not 3 or 4 inches off the ground either.

Thanks for any ideas

V mounts are common on imports like RX7s. Here's a pic that sorta shows it, IDK if youd have room to lay them down like this though.

I could possibly get the intercooler like that, but zero way possible on radiator.

That's why I said V-Mount the intercooler 😉

lay the intercooler down under the front of the truck, put the trans cooler down there with it. Do a small lip to force additional air into it, and be careful where you drive to avoid scraping

vent the hood with rAcEcAr vents or prop the hinges like dem huuuunduh bois

I like TrackSpec vents and will be using them on my C5 when the time for body mods comes

She's a little thing ❤️

I’ll definitely look into that. And a no for hood vents, will have to work out getting the incoming air out of engine compartment

i think a have enough room if i remake the inner bumper cover structure and can stick the cool in there at an angle.
also, going to move the trans cooler to a different location, maybe even get one of those coolers with a fan on it.

Possibly, going to use a water intercooler then I can mount it in a different location.

I just don't want any issues cruising my toy with the ac on in 115 degree AZ temps

Mount trans cooler under bed with a fan on it, v mount intercooler and a good aluminum radiator and you should be good.
