Default best square port head for boost

Long story short, I lost the valve retainer locks on the #2 exhaust port on my 408. fingers crossed i dont need a new piston as well.

the combo: TSP 408 bottom with stock LS3/l92 heads. 226/246 .629/.629 118+4. 1 7/8 headers with dual 3.5" exhaust. kenne bell 3.6 pushing 18lbs boost. what's the best square head on the market? any aftermarket options? i might as well upgrade if i'm in that far...Lesson of the day, dont use cheap chinese retainers on an expensive bottom

Man that car just doesnt want to be driven does it? :/

My opinion is if you want to get aftermarket castings go ahead and get 6 bolt heads for when you eventually go 6 bolt block. I think Frankenstein has some nice ones out these days, but I have also seen some really high power stuff with stock heads so theres that.

Always 2 steps forward, then one giant step back. Time to rip the motor and trans out. Cleaning up the firewall was a project i wanted to do, but not this year!

Saw that trick flow has their own 255 square port design with better valve angles. Not sure valve angle matters as much under boost. Im down the road from frankensteins. Thought about dropping these heads off with them to get fixed and worked

I am going to subscribe. I think the 4th version of my setup will happen if and when they launch a 2650 for trucks. If they do, I'll swap to an aftermarket square port at the same time to get the thicker deck.

"Best" is a matter of opinion, it depends whats important to you. Cost, valve size, port volume, wait time, material, rocker compatibility, etc.

I don't want to hijack the thread but let's assume dart, mast, tfs, and AFR are all on the table since they use ls3 components like exhaust flange and rockers. Txsilverado can chime in if he wants to disagree with my assumptions or throw another option out.

If money were no object then I would get some All-Pros or Mast Black Labels. But no way do I put $5k heads on a stock 4 bolt block
