best square port head for boost
#11
Its not a max effort build. Ifit was, it wouldnt have a blower lol. My original reaction was to fix these heads and have frankenstein, texas speed or craig gallant do port work while they’re off...but a little extra $ could put an after market casting up top and also speed up the repair (assuming i dont need a new piston$

Just looking at the flow numbers for the different aftermarket heads per the different websites, the AFR and TFS head look really good on the intake side while the MAST black label look really good on the exhaust (not peak, but flow is good throughout the lift range). TFS probably looks like the best considering the average of intake and exhaust flow. I'd guess the differences in the test setup are probably making some look better than others, but I'd say MAST, TFS, and AFR are definitely at the top of the heap and they use either an 11 or 12 degree valve angle which makes sense.

I wouldnt fix it, Just get a new casting and and be done with it. Or pay the core charge on a used pair.
Similar issue happened to someone else I know just the other day. Stated when he did the head and cam swap he noticed the head's had some repair work like maybe it dropped a valve before.
No one mentioned Richard at WCCH. I just had a set of small bore heads done there a few weeks back. He is in my backyard but also he is very intelligent when discussing what works and what doesn't, he never tries to over sell either.
Frankenstein does some really nice work. I would like to try some of their heads one day. I feel they have lots of options for different engine packages.
Also Katech, They called me a few months ago feeling out sales leads. At some point I would like to get some of their heads and check out their work.
Not really sure You could go wrong with any of the shops for CNC porting a set of factory castings. At the end of the day, Don't get caught up on Flow numbers or price shop for the cheapest option.
I would run any of the aftermarket heads mentioned above. They are all a good choice but considerably more money. Talk to a few of the companies and feel them out with your combo. You should be able to tell who is just trying to make a sale and who really knows their stuff. There is lots of little things they can do to their package for a blower set up Vs. N/A. A salesmen will just try and sell you what's on his shelf. A real Porter will discuss the options based on your needs and build the heads to your package.

stock bottoms for life. this motor would be a 6.0 or 6.2 if i originally built it. the 408 came with Annebelle (yes i named my cursed car after the cursed doll).
i'm not sure my OCD will let me slap it back togehter...It's probably comming out for 1 new piston. i'll re-use the rings from that hole to avoid honing.
