Default 8 rib pulleys

My dad has been a tool/die maker for 30 years, and it just hit me when I was getting sticker shock from the price tag of 8 rib pulley sets, that I could have him cut me some of the new pulleys. I need some questions answered first. What material should I have him use, aluminum, or steel. Are the extra ribs cut from the center out, or are they offset in or out. If I get an overdrive crank pulley, can I have him oversize the other pulleys 10%, so I am not overdriving my alternator, and power steering, or should I just leave them alone. Should I just buy the idler, and tensioner pulleys, or could I get some heavy duty bearings to put in that would be better than what comes in anything else.

The ls platform is not just a larger pulley down low, the pulley is the balancer as well. Things cost coin for a reason and I think this part is a big one.

Why are you looking at an 8 rib set up?

Since your building your own pulleys, the offset or from center does not matter. What I mean by this is you will make all your pulleys match up. If it was me, I would leave all measurements ( offsets ) the same as stock and add the extra ribs forward. Material steel will live longer then alluminum unless you hard anodized the alluminum.

Sorry I should have been more specific, I know I will have to buy the balancer/pulley, I planned on an inovators west one of those. I was wondering about making the rest of them match that.

I am getting ready for a tvs 2300, and am being told by everyone that the belt will slip around 10#, and I plan on going way past that.

Get ahold of the balance people and see what they are doing in the spacing dept. would be your best bet.

Does someone make a 10 rib damper for the trucks? It would be pretty much the same amount of work either way. I woner how much more they are.

Never mind, a 10 rib damper is as much as an 8 rib conversion. I know that it is for high performance, but how can they do that, its only 2 more ribs.

But back to the 8 rib, does anyone have a damper laying around they could measure the difference for me.

What about stainless steel, this is what my dad made as a suggestion, since mild steel would rust fast.

because more people would run an 8 rib as opposed to a 10 rib, therefore the costs of a 10 rib is more because they don't sell as often. Atleast that's my guess at it?
