70mm vs. 76mm turbo on 5.3

Like the title says. Which is more appropriate for a DD. I like 500 hp to the wheels with the possibility for growth. I am planning on an A2A intercooler.
Would a .96 AR be good for either turbo?

Check out some of the builds on here. Like foose's build. He's using 70,72, and 76mm turbos on his truck. With the room to grow a 76 might suit you better. But let some of the experts chime in first.

Its kind of a generic question.. but a lot of factors I would consider. Is it a stock 5.3? What gears you plan to run.. all this can affect spool time greatly. A 76 will work ... but will spool slower than a 70mm. If its your dd and your 5.3 is closer to stock I think you would be much happier with a 70mm. And you can grow with it as well.

You are absolutely correct that i am asking a generic question, i am trying to narrow down the tons of the variables that seem to go hand in hand with turbocharging. Bolting on a maggie would be acsure bet, i am really interested in learning the intricacies of turbos. My mods include long tubes, TBSS intake, TSP 220 cam w dual springs, transgo HD2 and a circle D 2800 stall, currently 3.23s and considering changing ratios to accomodate FI in the future.
So, considering the potential for a 76mm turbo spooling slower than a 70mm, could tha be corrected by using a smaller A/R, higher gears, higher stall etc?

You will LOVE those gears with a 60e and they are not bad at all with an 80e either(with a good converter). And its definitely good to learn all you can... I know it took me a long time to learn that so many things do come into play in making a turbo size decision..not just doing what everybody else does. Just make sure its fun to you and setup for what you do.. Whats fastest on the street may not be fastest at track and vice versa. Good luck my friend and i think it will be alot of fun when you are finished up.
