Drag Strip Q's??
#1
I'm thinking of taking my truck to a somewhat nearby drag strip this next spring just to see what it does. Of course I plan to spend a day there just as an observer first, to see how they operate, but I have some questions. First the track rules say any vehicle that runs 13.99 or faster requires a driveshaft yoke and the driver must wear a helmet. OK, a helmet should be cheap and makes sense, but the driveshaft yokes could be difficult. Since I will be launching in 4WD I would need two, correct? This of course is all required only if I run 13's. But I don't know if I do or not because I never ran before.
Based on the mods in my sig, can any of you folks tell me if this is going to be an issue or not? I'd hate to make the trip all the way over there (which include a ferry boat trip) only to find I'm banned for not having the right hardware. Conversely, I'd hate to spend that kind of time and money only to find it runs in the mid 14's and it was unnecessary.
The second question: I currently have the stock steel wheels w/ chrome overlays, and the cheesy hub caps with the six plastic screw-on nuts. Will these be a problem at the track? If so, what kind of wheels would you recommend (just bought new tires so I'd like to stay with 16" wheels)?
Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I already know to stay out of the water.

go with a helmet and observe for 5 minutes and then run the truck......you'll be fine and hooked!!!! When you first go down, i'd worry about nothing but easing up to the line and seeing how the staging lights work and where they are at...drive down the track and see the turnoffs and come right back...get in line and let her rip.

I wouldn't worry about the loop or yolk. Atleast around here they don't get on ya about anything untill you are running consistantly in a certain time. Do what CABLEBANDIT said. Just feel it out first. i have seen plany of idiots roll completly threw the staging lights and look rediculas. As for your wheels They won't be a problem.. Good luck.

hey im from WA also, bremerton a pretty nice track but i think u should go to SIR when there haveing a chevy or truck meet, everyone is so much nicer when ur driving a similar ride as them. they seem a little more laid back with the rules and youll find someone that dosnt mind showing neewbies the ropes.
they also have an ok strip in yakima,wa. where r u from. also i have a set of stock GMC SLE aluminum 16" wheels i could part with, less junk to strip from them at the track. by the way i live in walla walla, wa
