Default more hemi bad news

my 03 developed its first problem this weekend. i was on my way out saturday night when my truck decided it didn't want to start. i plugged the sc in and it gave me two codes: 0016, and 0339. turns out they are both crank related. the service manager at work told me that it sounds like the toner ring broke on the crank. the sucky part is that if this is what it is, the whole crank has to be changed. he also said that it is a good possiblity that they will change the short block. good thing my motor is all stock because it is still under warrenty. just have to make sure i get some of my stock parts out before the short block swap if it comes to that. i will let yall know tomorrow what they say.

The more I hear about this toner ring failing, the more it's starting to worry me.

Not good, what mods do you have? A lot of people with the under drive pulley have been having this problem, though a few without, some with an aftermarket cam or just over revving.

As far as I know, and Coltsteele can comfirm this, the 6.1L crank with a beefer toner ring can be swapped right in.

Did you have the superchips tune set to a 6300 rev limiter by chance?? Toe is right, about the only time I have seen this is an over-rev or an underdrive pulley swap.

Yep, me too. The high rev part with SC is beginning to be as big as the pulley potential.
Very sorry to hear about your problem! You also might be one of the first with a 2003 to have toner ring problems....lucky you.
Scary any way you look at it.

well we got the pan off at work today, and it is @#%#$%#^#@!!!! the toner is in about 3000 pieces and the timing chain guide broke. i seen a post somewhere that someone is making a one piece stainless toner ring. i am going to try and find it again and see about getting one. if not, i am going to get whats left of the toner ring off the crank and have a f.a.s.t. installed. either way i will be seperated from my baby for about a week and a half. there is no sense in warrenting a piece that is going to break again.

So what is involved with swapping out a Crank shaft? I am curious to know what kind of labour is involved, is it worth my money to beef up the bottem end so I know I can thrash it with no worries about gernading my engine, even though I haven't had any problems so far.
