Default 1996 Dodge 5.9

Hey whats up guys I don't really know much about the 5.9 performance so here goes I purchased this truck from a used carlot and I was told it was a 5.2 to 5.9 swap Okay the idiot that did it didn't put the 5.9 harmonic balancer or torque coverter on. So the truck was shakin bad.

I changed that stuff out and it, ran excellent for a Beast of a truck. It seems like it should have more power though, I mean I have felt more in a 318. The motor isn't worn hell the new 5.9 has less than 50 k on the reman

I'm thinking maybe the heads...are 5.2 heads? would that make a difference...also I thought maybe the Computer maybe a 5.2 but an Autozone code scanner picked it up as a 5.9 this truck has a serious lack of power any suggestions on what it could be.
Should I try a junkyard computer from a 5.9 truck or buy a Superchip or tune...

Default everything

like the post say I been in 318s that feel more powerful than my 5.9
Take off, pulling trailers, generally everything a out the truck feels slow.

It its 318 truck with a 360 swap I had replace the coverter and harmonic balancer cuz it still had the 318.....where should i start looking to find out why this truck feels like such a slug, i mean i know it wont be fadst im talking just making the power the 360 should make.

I would check for things like plugged cats frist (if it still has them). I worked for a place that had a dodge around that year that had a cat getting plugged and it was a turd until that was fixed. Just a thought.

5.9's are typically feel slower than the 5.2's. the 360's have loads of torque, but have a tendancy to rev slower due the the bigger bore, so they feel slower, but im sure if you lined it up to a 318, youd pull a lil on it.

Yeah, CatDam is right--I had a 5.9 for a small time and it didn't feel fast--just really strong. The heads are the same. You might want to try and do a tune up on it. And check the cats like truckmann said--highly possible culprit. Do a new CAI and open up the exhaust a bit. That should help out. You can do a single plane mopar intake and some shorty headers to help it breathe better too. You can go find a 360 computer and throw that thing in. Make sure it comes from a 1996 model.
