Don't know if you're gonna be on any steep hills or off-camber situations, but carbs don't really do well in those types of off-road situations. With fuel injection, you'll always be good to go, as long as you don't get so severe that you starve the oil pump....

Go efi, you wont be sorry. I had 2700 miles logged in a week on hot rod power tour in my 79 last year with no hicups, no poor starting and averaged 19 mpg. What's not to love!

i put a carb'd lq9 with a performer intake and the matching 2216 cam in a 86 silverado and it ran great but i think there would have been more power potential with a properly tuned efi setup

Go EFI much better all around, better mpg, idles better, starts easy, no pumping gas pedal to start, the list keeps going on & on. by going carb your taking steps backwards. thats probaly why your not so happy with your carbed 5.3L believe us you will not be dissapointed by staying fuel injected.

its not like you have to be "technology deprived" these days if you do decide to go with a carb....I'll still have a computer (of sorts) running the timing (can retard for easier start) and firing the coil packs, and 2 AEM UEGO analog gauges to monitor and "dial in" the AFR at various loads....and even a 4 speed overdrive to lower the rpm's on the highway for mpg's (like I'm really worried about mpg's with this truck
).
And on an old truck like this......well it just fits.
