Default Duramax '06 blowing out freeze plugs

Have a '06 Duramax Diesel that was just rebuilt and tuned for higher rpm and boost. Driving down the road the, the freeze plugs took a dump and lost all the coolant. Doing some searches pulled up some posts about coolant bypass systems and maybe modified freeze plugs for tuned diesels.

Anyone have a link where I can get freeze plugs that have a bar on the back that holds them in the block? I read about the threaded freeze plugs, but wanted to try the bar backed ones first. I found the bar backed plugs for the Dodge cummins block, but nothing for the Duramax.

TIA

That doesn't sound right. If you're blowing out oem freeze plugs installed correctly you are likely pressurising the cooling system with cylinder psi.

The factory water pumps seem to continue to increase pressure with RPMs and are reportedly seeing 75-90psi coolant pressures at 4000rpms... I want to try a low-tech solution before going to an expensive electric water pump and tap/screw-in freeze plugs..

What exactly do you have done to your truck, and what kind of RPM are you running? I've never heard of this before.

You could try putting some jb weld on them when you put them in. That will add some hold, and you can still get them out if needed. Can you undedrive the pump a bit?

Yeah, those are Cummins. I know they blow freeze plugs all the time, but to the best of my memory, I have never heard of a Duramax blowing a freeze plug. I have heard of a lot of them crapping out the water pumps running high RPM. I know of a few guys who have installed electric water pumps and deleted the factory oil cooler to try to alleviate some of those problems. I have personally run well over 4000 RPM in my 06 Duramax when I had a built motor. I was also running 850+ HP and 65 lbs of boost with a compound turbo setup consisting of a GT4718 and a 66 mm HTT.

So what do you have done to your truck, and what kind of RPM are you running?
