Default 2003 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 - Which trans and transfer case?

I picked up a 2003 Silverado 2500hd 4x4 w/ the 6.0. I towed my 94 ext cab up here to Alabama today, and it seems my trans is on the way out, quickly. Before I order a rebuild kit, I want to ensure I get the exact one that I need. I figure while I have the stuff down, I will also do the transfer case. Which should I have? I would imagine the truck has a 4L80E, but unsure about the transfer case (never had a 4x4 before).

I figured it would, and I meant to put it in there, but when I made that post I had been up for 36 hours and forgot. It is a manual shift.

just checked the vin, and it shows it as being a NP2:

TRANSFER CASE,MANUAL SHIFT CONTROL,TWO SPEED MAN SHFT TRFER CASE(NP2)

1GCHK29U23E180779 is the vin

Would NP2 be the correct model?

NP2 is the RPO code. You have the NP261 transfercase. But cawl underneath there will be a tag on the back and tell you what it is.

If you do rebuild the t-case, be sure to put in a Transfer Case Saver (pump-rub plate).

yeah, i saw that on Truck-U.

On the plus side, the transfer case was EMPTY, I put fluid in it and it is silent now. I went up to 20mph in 4L and 4H, everything seems good. Now I need to find out where the fluid went to.

The transfer case fluid is not a synthetic and when people dont check it evaporates over time, I saw this on a used S10 we had picked up. You might want to flush it because with it going dry metal wear particles are sure to be in there.
