Saw this mag extension swap idea on XD Talk and thought it was a pretty good idea. Don't know if many other people on here have XD/XDm compacts though, but worth a shot.
Copied from XD Talk thread:
I am looking to trade a #2 (medium) and #3 (thick) mag extension for a #1 for a .40 S&W XDm compact. PM me if you have any to trade or are willing to sell them.
EDIT: This thing:
Copied from XD Talk thread:
#1 is the THIN size
#2 is the MEDIUM size (This is factory installed on the pistol)
... Also a High Capacity X-Tension magazine with #2 sleeve comes in the case
#3 is the THICK size
FYI
Springfield part numbers for the XDM Compact 40 S&W High Capacity X-Tension Magazine:
XDM50111 16 Rd X-Tension for #1 backstrap
XDM50112 16 Rd X-Tension for #2 backstrap
XDM50113 16 Rd X-Tension for #3 backstrap
Springfield part numbers for the XDM Compact 9mm High Capacity X-Tension Magazine:
XDM50191 19 Rd X-Tension for #1 backstrap
XDM50192 19 Rd X-Tension for #2 backstrap

Mine did too, as well as the #1 and #3 sleeves (just realized I called them extensions above). I am going to pick up some more 16 round magazines and Springfield wants $10 for the mag sleeves in addition to the price of the magazines themselves. I have no use for the #2 and #3 sleeves since I have smaller hands, so figured if another user is in the same situation, we could swap and save each other $10 each (less whatever postage is).

Not the backstrap, just the sleeve so when I'm at the range, I don't have to pull the sleeve off of the 16 rd mag each time I change to another 16 rd mag. I want 3+ mags ready to go with sleeves and everything.

Yeah this only applies to the XDm's, the XD's dont have swappable backstraps.
You should also check out the pearce extensions, theyre awesome for when youre CC. The backside doesnt fully extend so theres less of a chance to print if youre wearing SOB.

I will check out the Pearce. I have seen it in pictures but never knew what it was called. I have 4 10 rd mags (1+3 free from the promo) but don't like how short they, that's the perfect fix.
