Okay, here is the deal. I've done a bit of research about people's preferred vendor for mail-order tunes.
I need a tune pretty quick because my truck keeps going into limp mode with the trans locking in 2nd gear, due to a recently installed stall converter. IT was fine for a week, and now every day this happens, so I need a quick resolution.
I also had some other questions and issues I wanted resolved with the tune.
I emailed 3 vendors who offer tunes with my questions and concerns. I thought the messages were concise and well written, and hoped to get the same thorough response back.
Of those sent 2.5 days ago, 2 have not responded at all, and one has responded with the most short, generic response which addressed exactly zero of my questions or concerns. Basically the old "send your payment here and your mod list here".
Is this normal of the service with a mail order tune? I work in the custom auto industry as well and everyone I know says business is dead...so I would think these guys would be chomping at the bit to earn any business that heads their way (I am with my business).
I want someone who will actually respond in a timely manner (1 day) and answer the concerns and questions I ask (less than 10). And someone who can give me a tune in 2-3 days' time. Am I asking too much?

Did you try Wheatley? I pm'd him my number to address my questions and the times I would be available and he called me back the next day and I had my tune a few days later and I'm very impressed with the gains! My only delay with Wheatley that he lost my shipping address which turned out to be a good thing since I had forgotten to mention a mod or 2, he called me and said he had allready tuned for it since I had sent him a PM about it. I ordered my tune on thursday and with the delay on my part it shipped mon. and i got it wed.

I bet I can guess who sent you the 1 line response. LOL.
In any regard, I highly recommend Wheatley.
What I have learned is that you should just send him your PCM with an instruction sheet in it. The guy knows how to tune for a torque converter. So say tune for tq. converter and it will be done.

Well not only did I want the torque converter trouble codes wiped out (p0575) and lockup characteristics changed, but I wanted some other stuff done:
-speed limit taken off
-egr function possibly taken off (I asked for his opinion)
-rev limiter possibly raised a little due to the ls6 engine swap (I asked for his opinion)
-shifting characteristics of the transmission (I asked if I really needed a shift kit first)
-torque management (I asked if taking it out would fry my trans since I am AWD)
-fuel...I asked if my stock truck injectors are good enough to feed this LS6 with his tune.
I also stated that I preferred not to have to do crank relearn, and to avoid this I could send in my original PCM **provided I could get a quick 1-2 day turnaround**. I asked for confirmation that tuning my original PCM would avoid the crank relearn, and also asked about the turnaround.
I get this in response:
"Hey buddy
It is xxxxxx for the tune + a 80.00 core charge
Add 100.00 to the price for Supercharged and or nitrous applications
We would mail you a pcm from us,when you get it swap it out with the stock pcm and you can mail is your stock pcm for the 80.00 core refund
If you want you can keep the stock pcm for the additional 80.00
We accept paypal
If sending a payment via paypal send to
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We will need your vin number
Tire size
Gear ratio
What octane fuel you want tuned for
Do you want the tranny to shift alittle firmer or much firmer than stock?
What you want your top speed govornor set at, stock is 98mph
What mods you have done to the truck
Also a shipping addess
Thanks and let us know "
Well gee...that didnt answer a damn one of my questions. I hate corresponding with someone that refuses to even read what I have already written. It reminds me of dealing with Dell customer service in Pakistan.

If you send the original PCM noo sir you will not have to do a crank relearn OR a security relearn
When PCM's are shipped to me I mail them back out the next morning next day air at no additional cost.

Very true sent mine in got it in today turned the key and started right up. Stop thinking about it and just send it in by the time you decide you would have already got it back. J/k but he does a good job.

I did, he's one of those who did not respond yet. I went ahead and sent mine out to Wheatley because I need it done now.
Anyone wanna hear some wierdness?
About a year ago, I wanted to put the e-fans in. But my 02 PCM wouldn't control them without the control pin being activated. Since I bought the fan harness from Nelson, I naturally went to them for this as well.
I didnt want my truck to be down, so I bought a core PCM from them with the pin switched on. But even after doing the security relearn, it threw code 0300 and would not lock up the converter (at that time, stock converter) while driving, and I was told this was because it needed the crank relearn.
I sent my original PCM back to them and had the fans activated on it, while driving on the core PCM. When my original came back, I put it back in the truck and put the core in a box on the shelf as a spare.
Now today I pulled my original PCM back out of the truck to send off for tune, and put the "spare" core that sat on the shelf for a year, in to run in the meantime. I just went for a 10 mile or so drive, and it DOES NOT THROW THE 0300 CODE, and THE CONVERTER LOCKS UP PERFECTLY.
WTF mate?
