Default Vmax throttle body/idle issue

On my dads 08 vmax he was havin a code pop up for his throttle body, so I took it off and cleaned everything up. Was really dirty and now it's perfectly clean, put it back on and made sure the sensor on the side was cleaned and connected tight, and the seal to the intake was tight as well. Started it back up, and now it idles to high...around 1100 or so instead of that 500-600 range like before. Did somethin change when I cleaned it? Not familiar with the electronic throttle bodies.

Idle has to be re-learned. As the throttle body coked up with gunk over time, the ECM learned how to deal with it by opening the throttle blade a little more over time to maintain idle speed and now that you have it spotless, with the ECM still holding the blade in the higher than normal open position it’s idling faster. It will do this until it learns that it needs to now close it some to maintain the proper speed. Judging from your post time, by the time you read this the truck is probably already back to normal.

One place I see this rear its ugly head is when someone re-flashes the ECM on a vehicle with a dirty throttle body and it either idles too low or even stalls, as the ECM is functioning off base programming and as yet does not know how to deal with a plugged up throttle opening. Usually when this happens, the 1st thought is to blame the tune, yet it was just lack of maintenance all along.

I don't know if your year model is the same but the idle relearn on my model is done by starting the engine with the throttle at or above 10% then letting it idle down itself. This is what Justin from Black Bear who did my tune told me.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for like 30 min. It will revert back to pre-determined values and relearn the Idle on its own.
