Replaced battery, low idle??(02 Silvy 5.3)
#1
Hey guys, first post.
I have an 02 with 91k. I replaced the battery yesterday and upon startup the idle was superlow, maybe 2-300 rpm?!
Never done this before, has always run flawless. Since yesterday sometimes when starting it the ilde seems ok in park but when it goes to D it does it again. Irritating to say the least.
Volts gauge reads as it always has, just over 14.
Tell me this will reset itself, Im out of warranty and out of work for 6 mos.
Is there a procedure I can do to fix this? I replaced the original batter a few years ago and had no issue.
Thanks
I looked at the stickys and FAQ but if the answer was there I couldnt find it.

try cleaning your idle air control valve. not sure how the battery and low idle would corespond. unless there was a check eng code with no light and when you swaped batteries it erased it. so now the truck has to figure it out again. i would start with the idle air.

Well, day 3 and it seemed t clear itself up and is back to normal. (whew!) Ill take your advice and clean the IAC and TB anyway, Im sure it needs it,.
Any favorite replacement plugs (spark) you guys like to use? Truck is stock so dont need anything too fancy.

Glad it cleared up, but just so you know for future reference, sometimes when the battery goes dead or is disconnected, the idle will fluctuate until the computer relearns itself. There is an "idle learn" procedure that can be done (can't remember what it is), but basically just driving it and beating the snot out of it will work lol.
Can't hurt to clean the throttle body anyway, it, along with the IAC and passages can get very gummed up with carbon over time. I usually clean my throttle body once a year as routine maintenance, along with an induction service such as running Seafoam through the intake via the brake booster hose.
