Default Remote Start Ready Qurstion

So the way I understand it the dealer downloads a code to the computer and gives ya 2 new keyfobs for remote start, what I wad wondering is if you get the key fobs from say eBay could you activate the remote start with like efi live or HPtuners? Or is it pretty much just take it to the dealer and pay the $230?

That would be sweet! Mine says remote start ready but both my key fobs don't have the button... It may work that way but idk the dealership isn't very forth coming with info that'll lose them money.

You cannot do it outside of the dealer. When we do it we swap out the RCDLR and reprogram the BCM and RCDLR. Neither can be touched by Efilive or HPtuners. In the kits we get with the two new fobs is a code. We call our "tech support" line and they reconfigure your factory options per each individual VIN and then we update the programming. That way if for any reason should another dealer have to reprogram those modules or replace them the updated programming is in them.

Sorry lol.

I have access to a Tech 2. Can I buy the fobs from the dealer, and use the Tech 2 to program it?

Also, RCDLR? Remote control door lock rrrrrrrrr???

Thanks!

No you still cannot. The tech 2 cannot perform the actual reprogramming functions alone. Like I said you have to contact GM for updated programming and only a dealer can do that.

RCDLR - remote control door lock receiver. Its the module that performs TPMS and keyless Entry/remote start operations

The remote start calibrations are added to the VIN at the gm level to the BCM and anit theft module to allow remote start. When you order the kit it comes with a authorization number we call gm techline with. Once we call with that number it gives them the clearance to add the remote start options to your VIN so the flash updates can be performed to enable the remote start operation. You can't just buy the remotes and then take it to a dealer and get the remote start enabled we can't get them to add the remote start options to the VIN without the authorization number supplied in the OEM remote start accessory kit.
