Default pcm questions

Ok, I'm going to buy Hptuners, one question. My truck is a 99. I've heard of people getting the 02 pcm because it is better or more up to date the the 99. Should I try to find a newer pcm and them use the HPT or just keep what I have and start learning?

no problems with my '00 pcm (supposedly the same as '99s). Talked to a few tuners, and am told that good tuning can eliminate the KR "problems" that people see with these.

If I find one I'll use it. Got injectors already. Its for a 408 with big cam, 44lbers and a bunch of other ****. If I don't find one I'll just stick with the 99 pcm and tune night and day. Thanks for everyones help and opinions

i would get an 02 pcm. The 99-00 pcm's are notorious for having false knock, there is also a few perameters that can't be modified in a 99-00 pcm. I have a 99 as well and I bought an 02 pcm for my truck when I got EFI live.

the pcm itself has no way of causing false knock, sensitivity settings yes, but the pcm itself no, yes the 99's have slightly fewer parameters you can change as compared to a later model pcm as well as having slightly less resolution in some cases. Other then that 99 pcm's are fine though.
