New Ecm-HP tune Question
#1
I want to purchase a new ECM to start with my HP tuning.
I want to keep the old ecm and program just for backup and reference.
How can I obtain and burn a new program in the new ECM with HP
to use a starting place?
Is there a place where files can be uploaded to test and use ?
Or can HP tune save the current file or should I use my Preditor to do that?
Thanks

You can (should) save your stock tune with HPT and can flash it back to your pcm anytime.
No need for an extra pcm.
There is a bin repository on the HPT site where you can download other peoples tunes.

What if HP can not read the tune?
It was done by a dyno guy who did not use HP-I think it was ls1 edit or efi live.
Files have ext of .crg and .cl and are downloaded with a Diablo Preditor hand held.
That is the reason for asking about a new ECM flash to start with.
thanks

I am going to do the exact same thing. My efi live v2 will be here Monday. I think the diablo uses chipmaster revolution? You should start your tune with the stock program and just use the chipmaster tune for reference. Hopefully Monday or tuesday I will be able to say for sure if efi live can read it.

I'm assuming this is going into the vehicle in your sig. If you purchase HPT, you have a choice on licensing. You can commit to a VIN-specific license or year/model license. Keep in mind that if you use the VIN-specific function, the ECM/PCM needs to have the VIN & Serial information saved on the PCM to work properly. EFILive can work around this, but unfortunately HPT cannot (at least not yet... still waiting on that... come'on HPT, please!!!).
Anyhow... unless the tuner locked the ECM/PCM, you should have no problems saving the installed tune, once you connect laptop to OBDII port & read/save installed tune. Hope this helps! Oh yeah... stock bins can be found on HPT's repository. Or, I can email ya that.
