Megasquirt
#1
If i was to replace the factory computer with megasquirt running the fuel and ignition what would i have to do to retain the factory gauge cluster? Or would i still have to use the factory computer to run the guages.
Thanks

i am using megasquirt to run my fueling, efans and nitrous. the stock pcm is still in place doing everything else including timing. i tune with the mega software and with efilive. it is a prety killer set up having both.
scott the local mega king is curently working hard on seting up megasquirt to run the stock coils. it would be easy to hook up with some kind of crank trigger but he is tying to do it using the stock crank position sensor and cam sensor. basicaly trying to make it plug and play. i am sure he will figure it out.
by being able to run the injectors and timing the engine will be completely controled by megasquirt. tuning is very easy with this unit. once you get over about 500rwhp it gets prety hard to tune ACURETALY with the stock computer, the mega does not have that problem. you still need the stock pcm to run the rest of the truck and you just leave it in there.
the problems lie in the rest of the truck, tranny control, drive by wire, converter lock up. you still need efilive to change the settings on that stuff. if you have a stick or are puting an ls1 into an older car with a non computer controled tranny then the mega is a killer option. if you have over 500rwhp then once again it is a great way to do things but you will likly still need a tuning tool for the stock computer. if you are under 500rwhp then i would just get efilive or hp tuners and learn how to tune with that.

so since i have a stick i dont need to worry about trans control. but i would like to retain stock gauges so i guess what i am tryin to ask is if the stock comp sends the signals to the cluster or does the cluster use signals directly from the sending units.

you are a perfect canadate for mega running your fueling and timing and not needing any other tuner. you will just clip the wires to the injectors and coils and leave everything else the same. the gauges will still work. you will be adding seperate sensors for iat and coolant temp and just taping the stock tps sensor. you will have a ses light, might just have to pull that lamp.
