Default hpt/efi question

Do I really need to get after market gauges if I plan on keeping my laptop in my truck all the time? I know the gauges in your stock cluster aren't accurate and are adjusted by the PCM to be dummy proff but how accurate are the gauges (oil pressure, trans temp, coolant temp, etc..) that hpt or eft show?

the stock guages are pretty close. i use a fuel pressure, vaccum, and N2O aftermarket guages. hpt will monitor everything else for you.

I've been told the stock gauges on our trucks suck! I'll be running a turbo with a built 4L60so I need an accurate reading on the trans temp, coolant temp, oil pressure, WB, boost, and fuel pressure. I'm working with a small budget and I personaly dont care for the pillar pod gauges so I'm hopping I can monitor everything on my laptop.

When ever I am data logging I have a set group for my trans. It includes Engine Coolant Temps and Trans Temps. On my Escalade, the guages are very close to the laptop readings. At first I thought the ECT was off but when I adjusted my position to look at the guage head on, instead of the normal driving position, it was right even with the guage. From the normal driving position it looked to be 210 but when I shifted to a straight on position, it show about 195-200 and the laptop showed 196, HTH.

The gauges in EFILive are pretty accurate, but will match up to the gauges in your cluster pretty close as everyone will tell you. If your wanting to monitor other gauges then you will need to have the la[top up and running. Also oil pressure is not supported in these PCM's the so EFI or HPT can't monitor it. It goes strait from the sending unit to the cluster.

PLX DM-200

If you want parameters that are already in the PCM, check this out. It looks like it's kind of like an Interceptor gauge, but fully customizable gauges.

I'm seriously looking at PLX for my gauges. They're coming out with some pretty cool stuff.

The readings you will get from the trucks various sensors will be accurate on the display in EFI. However, if you want to monitor AFR and Fuel pressure you will have to get additional gauges or get some sensors that have a 0-5V output and set up custom PIDs(assuming EFI has the capability of external inputs like HPT).

It does, V1 has 2 0-5v and 1 K-type thermocouple inputs and V2 has 4 0-5v, 2 12v switched and 2 K-type thermocouple inputs
