Default HP Tuners Version

I need to get HP Tuners but I don't really know anything about it.
I have been told to "make sure" I get an MPVI2 and not an MVPI3 as they removed a bunch of parameters, mostly related to emissions. I know the MPVI2 is not commercially available but you can find one on FB or maybe elsewhere.
For right now, I'm not tuning, everything is stock. I just would like to be able to log data from my vehicle for diagnostic purposes but I will eventually get to where I'd like to be able to tinker with the ECM/TCM. That will probably mean paying someone who knows how to tune, not messing with it myself unless we're talking adjusting TCC lockup or something like that. LIke I said I don't really know anything about this yet and I'm not going to just start messing with stuff without knowing.

so, MPVI2 vs MPVI3?

I didn't know about the 3 version.

I've got the 2 version and use it for things like gear ratio reflash, VATS delete and that kind of stuff. I'm not a tuner guy though.

A 3 should be fine at doing certain emissions work. I don’t own one though so I couldn’t say.

The MPVI or the MPVI2 are the only way to go if you were to do "older" stuff and still wanted the ability to do "whatever" you wanted with turning stuff on or off.

Anything newer than 4.8x software removed a whole lotta crap. Pretty sure there is a place you can still download all the older software for a MPVI2.

The 3 would be fine for most people though. Lots of vehicles run fine still even if you can't turn a few random things off related to emissions.

thats all I've been using for 20 years haha.
I've got both Efi and HPt tho. For a one and done HPT is cheaper but they limit you to what you can do.
EFI live you can make Cax files and the knowledge of binary code is your limit.

But you can’t make all the Cax files correct?
Because I didn’t think you could get the Cax files for say a 2012 dodge to remove the DPF

you can make whatever you want if you know the binary code and location of the data your looking for.

You can do Cax files on both softwares, but you need to know how to create them and where to look in the ECU architecture. Every ECU Platforum is different and the location withen the software of those files is different.

My understanding is that on the latest version of the HPT Software you have to go through an online course and agree to some stuff before they let you access certain tables.

Due to the EPA enforcement, No tuning software suite is supplying the Emissions removal stuff for newer vehicles. You either have to be able to find the stuff in the raw data to create the Hex on your own, Or you have to seek out those that know how to do it and purchase a base file that already has it done.
