Default tuning questions....

i know a lot of you will be offended, but i have a freekin handheld, and i have a few questions. <predator>

my truck has responded to the tuner well....but i have a cam/LT header combo going on very soon....and i chose a 116 LSA, small duration cam to avoid driveability issues/idle issues......

my question is, my predator will let me monitor/adjust AFR and LTFT's.....

i read on their website that the "optimum AFR value" was around 12.5 to 12.8

1.) is this close to what you fellers like to see, or is that different than a wideband readout would show?

2.) i have been logging/adjusting LTFT's first, dialing them in over a few days, then AFR monitor/adjustments via PE enrichment.....which i am fairly sure advances timing.... could i just advance it a few degrees at a time and monitor for KR until i get the timing maxed for my performance? or is that dangerous?

and i know, i know.....get a real tune...blah blah. hopefully my handheld doesnt get me scolded.

thanks guys.

12.5-12.8 seems good to me. some push it a little more but i hear its pointless

thats what i was needing to know.
thank you!

i know, or at least i am almost sure, that the predator is reading AFR from my stock narrowband sensors......but i read a write-up comparison between predator readouts vs. wideband and dynotune and it was very close...and its all i have so far. i still thought it would be better than a mail order, as i can actually monitor and adjust fueling/spark. i dunno?

next year, i am gonna go the STS rear mount turbo setup, with IC.... i will surely need real tuning equipment then....but until then, this is as far as i am gonna go.. n/a bolton.

i appreciate the info guys.

Rick at sts can email you a boosted tune that you can install with you're predator. When I bought my sts he sent me a predator with it for 400 dollars extra. I really prefer my efi live sd 2bar tune but it ran fine with his tune.

I tune AFR for 13.0 at WOT. In some of the lower rpms I run it a bit richer, like 12.6-12.7.

i think shortly i am may shitcan this predator? the more i get into this tuning, the more limited this tool is.

it seemed neat when i bought it, i was kinda scared of tuning electronically then.

i am going to get a dyno tune and compare it to my current diablo tune i have done...i have taken it as far as i can with the predator for now.

if the dynotune severely outways the predator tune....its gone!

What was the outcome on the dynotune vs. predator? I am looking into getting a predator. My only worry is that I am still under warranty, and want to keep it that way. Does the predator leave footprints on the PCM?

no, leaves no footprint. it works great, until you start modding! with just CAI and exhaust, it really woke the truck up. but now after cam and whatnot...its having trouble tuning.

i like my warranty too!! dont wanna screw it up.
