Ever since i put the 206 212 cam in my 5.3, i have had a problem while cranking when its cold outside. it will turn over probably a half revolution, then stop for an instant like its trying to kick back then it starts. With the new motor setup its even worse, it will do it probably 2 or 3 times then start. It will never do it when its above 50 degrees or so outside or when the motor is warm, even if it has ran 20 seconds since it did it it will start fine until it cools down completely. I am getting 62.5 degrees of advance while it does that, seems pretty high but i have nothing to compare it to. I am getting about 40 when its warmed up and starts fine. I don't know where in hpt to change that though and all my other timing tables are normal and get no kr. I have a new battery and starter and it hasn't changed since any of that either. Any ideas??? P.S. sorry for the long winded post!

its not that, its consistant. And i never ever have a single problem in the summer or when the motor is even slightly warm. checked all the cables and stuff several times. does it only in certain conditions. it's done it with 2 motors, 2 starters, 3 batteries and the cables are new. i had a mail order tune from wheatley and i am pretty sure it doesn't do it with that. Is that timing advance normal when its cranking? thats what i feels like is it is too far advanced and wants to kick backwards.

Well, if you are 100% positive that it isn't anything physical, I would look into your base running airflow table particularly in the low temperature cells. Kind of sounds like there isn't enough there (in the low temps). I would also add another 1.0 g/sec to the "start up airflow initial" settings (HPT > Engine > Idle > Idle Airflow > Start-up > Start-up Airflow Initial) across the board. At the same time, adding another 50 cam revs to "Idle Start-up Airflow Delay" (HPT > Engine > Idle > Idle Airflow > Start-up > Idle Start-up Airflow Delay) may help as well.

It sounds like too much timing especially since you said it was fine with another tune in it. Post up your HPT file so we can look at it. I'm in Maple Grove if you have any questions or want me to help look over anything in your tune.

i can post up the tune when i get off work, i have an older tune from when i first put the motor and trans in on the hpt forum, i was having the same problem with that if you want to take a look. My screen name is the same and i just bumped it to the top in gen 3 cars and trucks general tuning. I will get the current one up tonight. Appreciate the help!!
