Confirming 4L80E Swap can be done in HP Tuners without Segment Swap?
#1
Hi,
I know about the wiring for the new sensor etc. but I thought I saw posts that in the transmission section of HP Tuners you could now just "Choose" 4L80E in the tune and you're good to go no need to do a segment swap. I just spent an hour searching and couldn't find the thread where I found the below picture.
When my tuner was working on my truck (he uses HP Tuners) we went to the same screen as pictured below and there were no options like shown for different transmissions.
Do we need to get the segment swap done and then we'll see these options? Is it a HP Tuners Version thing? Not too many around here have done a 4L80E swap so I'm kind of flying blind.

Appreciate the help.

It has worked for some, and not worked for others. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.
Why don't you just email HPT for your segment swap ahead of time? It usually comes back within 24 hours. You don't have to use it if the other method works for you.

Haha thats my picture
That method *worked* for me in the sense the transmission shifted fine and torque converter did what it was supposed to. However a lot of the PIDS didnt work correctly, like converter slip, and input rpm. I eventually had it segment swapped anyway, which is pretty painless.
You need the new version 2.4 of the software to see it.

Ok great, thanks I will go ahead and get it segment swapped. I will need to find a 4L80E file from what I read.
I think I'm just going to buy HP Tuners, my tuner sells them here in Canada this way I won't have to meet up with him for every little thing we can e-mail tunes back and forth.

It all depends on the ecm/tcm in the truck. the 2008 that has been a thorn in a side of a few people on here does not have that option. You can however, flash a 4l80e file over the stocker as long as the OS is the same.

Didn't work for me. Converter would stay locked through the downshifts and coming to a stop. My tuner then flashed a stock 02 Silverado 2500HD tune into my computer, then redid all of other settings back to what I had them at. Then I fine tuned it to my liking.
