Buy HPTuners for 4.8 and 6.0 SS Tuning? Or mail order?
I have a 2007 Silverado with the 4.8L V8... I'm basically wanting to leave the truck stock with maybe a drop in filter... I'd like to remove some of the torque managment and modify some of the shift tables... and perhaps tune a little for MPG increase... Would I be better off doing a mail order tune/dyno tune for this? Or go ahead and buy HPTuners and fiddle with it on my own? I already own TunerCat Software for my LT1 car so I have a little experience with it all...
Also would be working on a 6.0 AWD SS Truck... Removing limiters, adjusting shift points, etc...
What kind of performance increase could I expect from merely tuning on my 4.8? I would hope it would be a little more responsive, it feels like riding an obese horse...sluggish
I guess my question is, if I'm just doing slight modifications like that, would I be better off with a mail order tune...

In my opinion, if you are planning on tuning both of those trucks, then you should definately consider purchasing HPTuners or EFI Live. Two mail-order tunes would probably cost you more money. It's easy enough to do the little changes you are asking about. Also, if you spend enough time reading & researching on the boards, you'll get deeper and deeper into tuning. Besides, eventually you're gonna want to do something for more power.
Either program will come with enough credits to tune both trucks.

If your looking at only tuning one vehicle a modest amount, then buying the software probably isn’t cost efficient, but if you’re planning on doing more than one and their isn’t really a reason not to do both of the trucks you mentioned, I would say that buying the software is the better route to take. Especially since you said that you already have some experience under your belt using TunerCat’s, I believe you will take to it like a duck to water. The other programs are different from TunerCat’s and some actually say that TunerCat’s software is more difficult to use, but I guess since that was what I started with as well that it doesn’t seem that hard to use at all and that HP was actually more of a progression than anything else for me.
